"Without your attention to details and willingness to go the extra miles (or perhaps 10 miles) to secure a sale in these difficult times, the boat would have never been sold."

Dear Ezra,

I am writing to thank you for all of your efforts on my behalf in the recent sale of my 52 foot custom aluminum pilot house cutter, Rigel. Throughout the process your performance as my broker has far exceeded my expectations, which from the beginning were quite high. I am confident that no other broker could or would have done as much.

You may remember that when we first spoke I had already interviewed about eight to ten other brokers. Because Rigel was 25 years old, aluminum, custom built and in many respects very unusual, virtually none of them were interested in the challenge of selling her. All but two advised me there was no market for such a boat in the current economy and my only option was to price her low from the outset and rapidly drop the price from there. In other words they wanted to make a quick sale with minimal effort and my interests be damned.

You, Ezra, on the other hand, told me that in spite of the issues that dissuaded other brokers you thought that the boat was extremely well designed and built and in excellent condition. You agreed she was uniquely qualified and ready for serious ocean crusing and therefore of exceptional appeal and value to the right buyer. You said there would be a limited market but with appropriate marketing and effort you thought you could sell her for substantiially more than the others were suggesting. You correctly predeicted the ultimate buyer would be a foreign national. When I asked you why you were willing to take on a difficult task that the others weren't you sais, "That's what I do. I sell boats. I like the challenge." I was impressed.

And, Ezra, you never disappointed me. You spent what I thought were extrordinary amounts of time and efforst with various potential buyers, some of them extremely difficult customers. You kept me informed at all times. You employed creative measures to help market the boat. The outcome was that she was sold for 30% to 50% more than what the others told me to expect. She was sold within nine months when you had advised that the average time to sell in the current market was twelve to 18 months. And most impressive of all, when the sale ran into a major obstacle prior to completion, you devised a solution that was very satisfactory to myself and the buyer so that the sale could go through.

If and when I decide to buy another boat you, Ezra Androus, will be the only broker that I call. I can't thank you enough.

Sincerely,

Henry W. Turkel, Jr., MD
